Fact Sheet – Optical Wear When Travelling

Getting ready for your summer holiday? The OCCS share some important facts about travelling with your optical wear.

Contact Lenses

  • Disposable lenses can be in their sealed blister packs and are allowed in both hand luggage and checked luggage.
  • Non-disposable lenses must be carried in a contact lens case with a small amount of solution (usually no more than 100ml).
  • You can carry contact lens solution in a container up to 100ml.
  • Consider bringing spare pairs of lenses, especially if you don’t wear disposables.
  • A smaller travel-size bottle of solution is recommended for use during the flight to help with dry eyes.
  • Never transfer solution into a smaller container, as this can affect its sterility.
  • Having your glasses as a backup is a good idea, especially if you’re prone to dry eyes or allergies.
  • Be sure to follow the recommended wear times for your lenses, especially on long flights.
  • Ensure your contact lens case is clean to avoid contamination.

Glasses

Did you know if you are travelling by car in some countries, like France, Spain, and Switzerland, they require drivers to carry a spare pair of glasses in the car, if need for driving.
